KBIA’s Kevin Gier has this report about the Univeristy of Missouri Health System in Colubmia.

The University of Missouri Health System in Columbia is outsourcing about 100 information technology jobs to North Kansas City-based Cerner Corp. The computer specialists will continue to work in mid-Missouri, but they’ll become Cerner employees.

Officials of Cerner and the university announced the partnership Tuesday. They say the health system will continue to employ about 20 to 30 of its current information technology specialists.

Cerner’s partnership with the university calls for creation of what will be called the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, which will seek federal stimulus money to improve hospital electronic records.

UM System president Gary Forsee says the partnership could potentially earn the University $100 million over the next 10 years.

“It’s gonna come in multiple sources. It’s not Cerner writing a check. It’s software, it’s hardware, it’s program management expertise. It’s us having a chance to participate in revenue streams as a result of intellectual property that could be deployed.”

Among the Institute’s first projects is to consolidate University Health Care medical records into an online system that can be accessed from anywhere in the state.
